it's David Badeel well I'm not David Badeel I'm Andrew Gold but David Badeels on the podcast today on on, I'm Andrew Gold. But David Badell's on the

podcast today on the edge with Andrew Gold. He's a household name and rose to fame as

one half of the Newman and Badell Act in the 90s. He then worked with

comedian Frank Skinner and I was a huge fan of their

Bedeal and Skinner unplanned. I still have the theme tune in my head. It goes,

it'll never work and neither will we again, which I used to find very funny.

I used to watch it as a teenager sort of in bed on school nights, you know, staying up later than I should have done. It was great.

But not only did the duo produce some of the best comedy and talk shows over the years,

they also wrote alongside the lightning seeds, one of the best songs of all time.

I'm talking about football's coming home or Three Lions.

If you're not a football fan or not from the UK, you might not know it.

Although I know that the Germans love that song and they sort of do their own versions of it.

It is a song that was written around football, right?

The sport, which is soccer to some people in other countries, and is

laced not with triumph and tribalism, but despair and longing and whimsy, and it's not what you might expect from a sports song so do have a listen if you don't

know that it's rather beautiful in recent years David has written apparently

brilliant children's books.

He's put on a play called God's Dice and taken to the stage for shows that are halfway between

comic stand-up and theatrical monologues. Just as with the old football song,
