It is free for all Friday here on the Council of Trent podcast. Welcome. In a previous episode I talked about how much I want to support the Gen Z apologist, the next generation of Catholic apologists, evangelists, and content creators. And I got to meet a bunch of them at the Catholic

answers conference in September. So this month I'm going to be sharing some of the

content I made with them and next month free-for- all Friday is going to be going in a

slightly new direction now don't panic don't freak out still going to be weekly

so going to be on Friday still going to be a free for all but I want to expand it and so I'm going to be a free for all, but I want to expand it.

And so I'm going to share details about that at the end of the month.

So in today's episode, I'm going to share with you some clips from my interviews

with the channel Sips with Sarah and Braden the Catichumen. So please check out their channel

of sharing their faith in this way. So first up, here's part of my chat with Sips with Sarah.

Well I have some questions here from my grandparents who are Protestants. I've talked about them on the

channel before. They are not happy with my conversion of Catholicism. I've shown that some of your videos and while they don't agree with you they've said they like you. That's nice. That is progress. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

One question they have is, and this was one that I'm maybe I'm too new but I wasn't able to articulate very well, why do people do things like crawl on their knees, maybe on a pilgrimage towards like a statue of Mary or something that they might like crawl on their knees in a sort of like a sacrifice can you speak to like why people do that?

Well that comes from the the practice of self mortification which comes from the larger practice of self-mortification, which comes from the larger practice of self-denial, that when

we deny ourselves comfort, it allows us to be closer to God.

If you think about it, Jesus didn't say if you fast. He said when you fast,

anoint your face so people don't. Don't fast so that people can see what you're doing.

Now, you know, say, oh, they don't wear ashes on Ash Wednesday.

No, that's not what Jesus means.

Because when Jews would fast in Jesus' time,

people would know that you're fasting.

It's not like it was a secret.
