In honor of the Thanksgiving holiday here in the United States, we’re taking the week off and featuring a few “Best of” segments from recent episodes. The common themes throughout?
Elite behavior, effective communication, proper feedback and identifying talent. The heart of this episode is built upon personal growth and development, so as you listen back to some of these segments, do so with the lens that employing some of these key principles (as both leader and athlete) will establish trust and enable a real coaching relationship to flourish.
This look-back is also a must-listen for the coaches (and the business leaders!)
This is not only the time for you to assist athletes in season planning and helping them set up the approach for the season, but it is also a time for deep reflection and a postmortem on your own approach. It is only with an ongoing search for growth, improvements, and evolution that you can continue to improve. If your plan is to simply repeat your approach for this year — you are regressing, not growing — no matter what your prior success is.
We say evolve or die — and it isn’t just for athletes. If you think you have it all figured out, then it is time to retire or go and do something else. Instead, reflect, review, ask for the gift of honest feedback, ask questions, seek advice.
It isn’t weakness — it is strength.
Evolve or die.
