Hi, I'm Olympian Carrie Tullifson and welcome to the C-Tolly Run podcast.

0:11.2

Today I'm interviewing Allie Kiefer.

0:13.4

Allie had a breakout performance in the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon, where she finished fifth overall and was second American to

0:20.8

Shalane Flanagan. She's running great right now and is ready to tackle the Big Apple again

0:25.8

with hopes of bettering her time and position from last year. In this episode, we talk about her

0:31.7

goals and expectations for the New York City Marathon, but we also talk about her big move back

0:36.4

out to Boulder.

0:42.0

Allie is one of America's best runners, and we can learn a lot from her about running.

0:46.3

But she's also gained a lot of attention through her willingness to talk about body awareness and being confident in your own skin. So much has happened in the last year since we interviewed

0:52.2

her. So let's just get after it. All right, All right, Allie, thanks again for coming on see Talley, Ron. Thanks for having me, Carrie. Okay, so let me just tell you this. I have recorded two podcasts today. The first one, I didn't have the volume up on the microphone, so I couldn't hear myself. So we were dealing with that for about 20 minutes. Then you come on the show and we were dealing with wind

1:15.7

outside and the coffee shop and then you had to drive home to do this. So I just have to say,

1:20.9

I love the running community for so many reasons, but just because good people are in the

1:25.2

running community. Oh, well, I appreciate you dealing with me because that was probably a poor decision to go to the coffee shop. It's too good. Everyone was there and talking. That's awesome. Yeah, people are having fun. Well, good. Okay. So you have New York City Marathon coming up in about a week and a half. This is going to air the week of the marathon. So I am just super pumped because

1:46.1

we had you on right after the marathon last year when you were fifth and second American and had a

1:51.7

huge breakthrough in that race. And this year, it seems as if things are going even better and you're

1:56.8

super pumped about it and you have some big goals. So we have to rewind because the last two weeks,

2:01.9

well, you were telling me earlier and we'll get into this in the podcast, but you've been

2:05.5

traveling now for about three weeks, not so much just to get away from Boulder, but to get

2:09.7

away from the altitude and to get those final tuneups in. So let's kind of talk about what you've been

2:14.2

doing and how the prep is going for New York.

2:24.4

Yeah. So, I mean, to go like way back, like I thought the prep was going pretty well,

2:30.2

but I was in Boulder, like you said. And last year I was doing the buildup in Buffalo, New York.
