Today, the Bible Study podcast continues the study of the book of Luke, starting with chapter 9.

Welcome to the Bible Study podcast. I'm your host, Chris Christensen. We're going to finish off chapter 9 today and start chapter 10, starting with Samaritan opposition. But first a word from this sponsor.

Samaritan opposition. As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely

set out for Jerusalem. And he sent messengers on ahead who went into a Samaritan village to get

things ready for him. But the people did not welcome him because he was heading for Jerusalem.

When the disciples, James and John, saw this, they asked,

Lord, you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them.

But Jesus turned and rebuked them.

Then he and his disciples went to another village.

This is an interesting passage here.

There's a couple things going on.

Remember that Jesus has predicted his death now a couple times, and the disciples have

had this argument about who's greater.

That was what we had last week.

Who's greater in the kingdom of God?

And two of the people who I suspected were involved in that argument, although Luke doesn't say

were James and John, because James and John had been up to the mountain of transfiguration,

and it could be, were quite full of themselves.
