You often hear that we need to teach computer science as a foundational skill. Why? Well, I'm not

actually sure many of the leaders pushing this forward have great answers other than jobs.

But it is fundamentally important that we do teach programming as a core skill. The reason I believe

is that whatever your specialty, be that biology, psychology, geosurveys, whatever. Basic programming will supercharge that skill.

And that's why I'm excited to introduce you to Software Carpentry and Jonah Duckles.

They are bringing these skills and more to scientists and educators throughout the globe.

I'm a developer in many senses of the word, because I make these applications, but I also use these verbs to make this music.

I constructed line by line, just like when I'm coding another software design.

In both cases, it's about design patterns.

Anyone can get the job done.

It's the execution that matters.
