Lee Matthews was a 21-year-old student studying at Bonsoyth Africa University, where she was

studying for a B-com finance degree. Her friends always described her as old-fashioned, and

often joked that she would blush at the drop of a hat. She was the daughter of Rob Matthews,

who was the MD of the ID specialist firm, First Technology, and Sharon Matthews. Rob was a

prominent businessman in the area. In 1999, he helped earn a round, the JSE listed, IT Supply Group,

Syltek. Rondy year later, Rob left Syltek and joined First Technology, which was one of the

largest independent IT companies in all of South Africa. Lee was close with both of her

parents, but especially with her mother. They often went to the gym together, as well as

to hobby classes. Their favorite was the class they took together to learn how to compile artistic

scrapbooks. She was following in her father's footsteps and wanted to have a successful career

as a charter to content. Lee was also an extremely caring and compassionate young woman.

After the infamous Columbine Massacre in 1999, Lee and her classmates had collected and sent

medical supplies to the victims. During her time at high school, she worked for a hospice,

the S.P.C.A. and the Guide Dog Association. On the 9th of July 2004, Lee drove to Bond

University to attend her classes. Just the day beforehand, Lee had turned 21 years old. She

and her family and a couple of girlfriends had gone for an evening meal at a restaurant.

They ordered a bunch of food and all shared it before the entire restaurant,

sang Happy Birthday to Lee, turning her fierce bright red.

Afterwards, they all went back to the Matthews' house and had tea and chocolate cake.
