Hey, welcome to the Dead Meat Podcast. I'm Chelsea and James isn't here. He's still on vocal rest.

From his surgery, he's doing fine. He can talk a little bit now, but just not a ton at a time.

So we're going to have to wait another week or so for him to come back onto the podcast.

So we're going to do a few short stories this week by Ambrose Beers.

You've probably heard of him. I first read his stuff in English class in high school.

He's an American author, 1800s. You served in the Civil War. So a lot of his work is about that.

Two of the stories that we're doing today deal with that. Big pioneer of psychological horror.

He writes some ghost stories. They're all kind of spooky. They all have to do with death.

But there's still, he has a dark sense of humor. You may also know the Devil's Dictionary, which is a lot of fun to just kind of browse through if you have the chance.

But if you know any story from him, it's an occurrence at Alok Creek Bridge, which I'm going to read first.

Again, there's a pretty good chance you've heard this one already or you've read it in English class.

And if not, you'll probably read it if you live in America.

But so if you start doing Ambrose Beers in English class and you maybe bring up one of the other two stories that I'm reading,

which are going to be the boarded window and a tough tassel, you'll look like absolute kingshit in class.

Because everyone knows an occurrence at Alok Creek Bridge, but you can like pull out the deep cuts and look like a total player.

But yeah, we're going to start with an occurrence at Alok Creek Bridge. I'm just going to have them all kind of segue into one another so we don't kill the vibe.
