1 Corinthians chapter 2 verse 4 and 5

and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the

spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

That is such a powerful statement. Not only when we think about preaching, but when we think about

sharing the gospel in our lives. Let's think about both, though, together.

So Paul is saying, when I came into Corinth sharing the gospel and proclaiming the gospel in different

settings my aim was not to impress with like plausible words of human wisdom not to impress with all kinds of lofty rhetoric

that's what he described back in verse one of this chapter.

So his aim was not to be like this most eloquent speaker.

And we know from other parts even of Paul's letters

to the church at Corinth that there were a lot of people who didn't think he was that greatest speaker.

And well, just ask Euticus too, and Act chapter 20.

Put Euticus right to sleep in a way that killed him.

Thankfully Paul raised him from the dead,

but that's a whole other story.
