introduction in a second. But today, our episode today is all around negotiating at work.

And in terms of what you can expect for the next half an hour or so, we're going to be covering

why negotiations an increasingly relevant skill in a swiggly career. We're also going to talk about

some of our experiences of negotiating, maybe dig a little bit into the highlights and lowlights

of our career

negotiating experience. And we're going to really focus on practical tips. We've got six

practical tips for you to help you to develop your negotiating skills in lots of different

contexts that it might come up at work. But first, let's imagine this is your first one. So

should probably explain a little bit about what squiggly careers are and why we do a podcast on them every

week so sarah i'm going to hand that button over to you oh thanks pleasure i think we actually

realised that we probably end up talking about squiggly careers a lot, but very rarely actually take a bit of

time just to explain what we think they are. And we probably both have our own kind of slightly

different versions anyway, so it's good to keep practicing. I think from our perspective, when we came

up with the idea of squiggly careers, it was a recognition and kind of an insight that the old

world of predictable linear career ladders were

disappearing. The idea now of a job or even a career for life is really rare. We're both in

the kind of situation where you look at your kind of parents and you think, well, I'm going to have

more jobs and work in more companies than my dad. And that's true
