Summary

James and Al welcome religious historian Bill Leonard and Biden’s former Senior Advisor for COVID Response, Andy Slavitt, to look at the mythologies holding the USA back-- from the supposed glory of the Old South, to anti-social and harmful views about the pandemic and the ongoing efforts to end it. Should we be optimistic? And what will it take to convince the more recalcitrant among us to embrace the policies we need to create an inspiring future?

Hey James, it's not a week because by maybe a day that goes by where we don't learn more about the House of Hars and the criminality of Donald Trump. This week we learn that they secretly subpoenaed phone records of House Intelligence, chair Adam Schiff and his family and another member and of their own White House counsel Don Macon. Now this was not about investigating leaks in the classified information or some national security problem.

2:00.9

This was about political embarrassment. The probe that Schiff was making into Trump's Russian connections and Ukraine. It's an outrageous perhaps an illicit act. We also found out that White House chief of staff Martin Meadows last December after the election was pressuring the Justice Department to take action on the phony charges that it was a stolen election.

2:24.9

The two of the attorney generals during that time we embarked Jeff Sessions and the deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein said, hey, God, we know we're just playing the piano. We didn't know about anything going on, which leaves two possibilities. Either their line, which is a distinct possibility or there was a rogue Trump operation inside the Justice Department doing this kind of stuff which might be even worse.

2:48.9

But all it's just and it's going to keep coming out and ain't going to stop. You know, I watch Hogan's heroes. I still got that thing in Sergeant Shoes. This is what I call the Sergeant Shoes crisis. I know nothing. I know nothing. No, I know if anything. I don't happen. I got pregnant and swimming pool. All right. Some of sense this makes.

3:08.9

And I mean, if we don't, there's not some effort to get people some answers and pretty quickly. Then I'm going to be disappointed because I am becoming as our other people slightly ever so slightly worried that the Justice Department is tripping over itself and not moving forward.

3:34.9

I hope that little kid I have my stomach proves to be that.

3:38.9

That Marik Garland isn't being aggressive. We ought to know who he knows who authorized this stuff. There's no reason he can't tell us that. That's not a, that's not classified. Who did it?

3:47.9

You know, that's all it. And it turned out to be nothing. Right. You never quite say no. If you were dying, it is. But but why? Why? It's like when you go to the game and have a replay. They won't show you the replay. Why not?

4:00.9

I pay a heart fifty dollars for this ticket. Mr. Larner. I want to see it. I mean, what was the national security and risk here? Tell us who did it.

4:11.9

Well, of course, the reaction among Republicans, Mitch McConnell says, hey, this is just political. We don't need to investigate this. Mitch McConnell doesn't believe in congressional investigations. And Jim Jordan, one of your favorite members is outrage.

4:23.9

Not what justice did, but that what Mark Meadows did, but that the Justice Department didn't try to help. Mark Meadows request to overturn the election. That's what Jim Jordan says.

4:36.9

What do you expect? Okay. But I'm just saying, I don't know what, what's the hold up? Give us the answers. Now, let's find out how this happened.
