Summary

Carol Potter steps Behind The Rope. Cindy Walsh from the beloved and iconic Beverly Hills, 90210. We start at the beginning chatting about how Carol was cast, the buzz around town about Aaron Spelling's new teen drama, and just what life was like in the early days when all of its cast were virtual unknowns. Life was anything but stellar. We chat about how the show premiered to blah ratings and how that one unprecedented decision to air new “Beverly Beach” episodes over the summer changed everything. Carol discusses what it was like when the relatively unknown cast was skyrocketed to fame of epic proportions and answers all our nuanced questions about Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Luke Perry, Jason Priestley, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green and Ian Ziering. We talk about all the buzzed about topics from back in the day - Tori auditioning under a fake name, Shannen Doherty’s bad behavior, Shannen and Jennie’s physical altercation and Shannen’s cutting of her hair, despite warnings, which ultimately led to her firing. Carol recounts stories from the tension on set caused by Shannen and what is was like once she was replaced by Tiffani Thiessen who was then dating Brian Austin Green. We also discuss Oscar winner Hillary Swank’s role, how and why she was fired, and all our other favs Vanessa Marcil, Christine Elise, Kathleen Robertson, and Lindsay Price, to name a few. We pay homage to the reboot (AnnaLynne McCord shout out) before discussing what it is like to receive a call regarding the BH90210 Tori/Jennie produced “heightened version”of themselves show, to see the gang again and why she thinks it was so short lived and didn’t resonate with audiences. That heightened version of herself included played a “therapist” since, well, she is a licensed therapist in real life. On that note, Carol chats about her new book “When Your Child has a Chronic Medical Illness”, the untimely passing of Luke Perry, Shannen Doherty’s unfortunate battle with cancer, and what is next for the actress who was part of one of the most groundbreaking, revolutionary, classic, iconic, life changing shows in history. @carolpotter90210 @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by BETTER HELP - https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code "velvet rope") Brought to you by BOLL & BRANCH - https://www.bollandbranch.com (15% Off First Set of Sheets - Use Code “Velvet”) Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 Learn more about your ad choices. 0:41.9

Well, thank you David. That's a very sweet introduction. Um, as anyone ever told you that you bear a resemblance to Randy Rainbow, not once in my entire life.

0:55.1

Really, really, I mean, there's something about your face and the shape of your face. I don't know, might also be your attitude, which is similar to his, right?

1:06.3

I thought you were, okay, so let me just tell you, this is not my ego talking, but I thought you were going somewhere else. This does tie in because numerous times at numerous ages, various people tell me throughout my life.

1:18.3

This is going to sound like a tisqol that I look like Brian Austin Gray. That's what I get. Yeah, and and that sounds very egotistical because he's just, I mean, I, I, I appreciate all that is Brian Austin Gray personally.

1:33.5

Yeah, that's funny because I, I mean, I, I remember a think of his face as being wider and square more square than yours, whereas Randy's is this nice long oval.

1:43.9

When we get off now, I'm going to have to go and see like really study because you are literally the first person who is.

1:49.9

Yeah, well, you might be an online thing, you know, I only see him on video and I'm only seeing you on video. It might not be in in life thing at all, you know what I mean?

2:03.1

I do. And listen, if anyone knows Brian Austin Gray and space, I mean, you certainly know better than me.

2:08.7

Well, it's been a long time. It's been a long time, right?

2:14.3

And oh my god, it's been a hugely long time. I mean, I, I, I'm just so bold over by the, the resilience of this show and how the people who loved it at the time are such die hard fans and when we keep getting new fans because of, you know, DVD sales and now we're on.

2:38.3

You know, some kind of cable networks and or streaming services, right? And so new generations are discovering it. I mean, I just, I just blown away by how it's endured through these many, many, many, many years.

2:57.9

Does it ever get your answering half of my questions right now? And then I want to ask you some other things and go back to the beginning, but since we're on the subject. Does it ever get tiring like it just even as like an actress to be like, you know, listen, you've done a lot in your life.

3:11.9

We're going to talk about your book. We're going to talk about what you do now. You know, you could play any role. You could play the breakout role of your life next week with Meryl Streep and you could both win Academy Awards.

3:23.9

And, you know, does that ever get tiring that you're Cindy Walsh to a whole bunch of people?

3:28.9

No, no, you know, honestly, I think one of the things that's nice about it is everybody has such a warm spot in their hearts for her.

3:41.9

I mean, it might be different if she was a sociopath, right?

3:45.9

Yeah. And, you know, I don't, it's not like I live in this world where everybody's coming up to me all the time saying Cindy Walsh, Cindy Walsh, Cindy Walsh.

3:55.9

Truly, that's still, it's a rare occurrence.

3:59.9

You know, moments like this and, you know, occasions when I happen to be out in public and somebody recognizes me, but obviously that hasn't happened at all this year as I am.

4:10.9

And I'm not in public. It's not happening this year or last year.
