Yang Xinhai was a criminal from the start. When he was around 20 years old, he was sentenced to labor camp. For theft and just five years after being released, he went on to serve five more years in prison for an attempted rape.

On November 3rd, 2003, after a routine police investigation of entertainment venues, Yang was detained for acting suspiciously. When taken into custody, police questioned him and found that he

was the man who was wanted for murder in four provinces.

Shortly after he was arrested, Yang began to confess to his crimes.

According to him, he murdered 65 people, raped 23, and seriously injured another five.
