0:11.5	My name is Mandy, and this is our 90th podcast.
0:16.4	Two weeks ago, I talked about the CH sound.
0:32.6	Today I'm going to explain a related sound, the J sound, as in the words jump, strange and giant. The CH sound and J sound are both africots.
0:36.6	An africot is a type of sound created when we stop all the air from leaving the vocal tract,
0:43.3	then, when we release the air, we do it with friction or a little extra sound.
0:49.8	English has only two africot sounds, the CH sound and J sound.
0:57.0	The only difference between the CH sound and J sound. The only difference between the CH sound and J sound is voicing. The CH sound is unvoiced and the J sound is voiced.
1:05.0	You can feel the difference between voiced and unvoiced sounds by placing a finger or two against the front of your neck.
1:13.6	You will feel the vibration of a voiced sound, but not the unvoiced sounds.
1:20.6	That vibration is created by your vocal cords.
1:24.6	Feel both of these sounds.
1:26.6	Ch, j,
1:28.6	ch, j.
1:30.7	Ch,
1:31.0	ch,
1:32.1	be careful.
1:35.8	If you add a vowel sound to the CH sound and say it like,
1:40.3	ch,
1:41.6	you'll be adding a voiced sound to the CH sound, and you'll feel the vibration of that sound, which may confuse you.
1:49.9	The CH sound is pronounced as ch, and the J sound as j.
1:57.3	The sounds aren't chuh and jah, but simply ch and jj.
