In this episode we're interested in an American trained doctor named Paul Nobu Tatsaguchi who was posted there but with the Imperial Japanese Army and whose diary was subsequently recovered.

To tell us about Paul Tatsaguchi's diary, I'm joined by Mark Ormasic,

author of Storm on Our Shores, which traces the story of Paul and the Battle of Attu.

Now this is a curious story and I guess our main protagonist is the Japanese

National Paul Nobu Tatsuguchi. Now pre-war he's in the USA. What's he doing there?

Well Paul Tatsiguchi is a native of Hiroshima, but his family had converted to Christianity, 7-day Adventist.

And so he moved from his native Japan to California to go to school, and he attended 7-day Adventist University,

Pacific Union College up in Northern California and ended up going to

medical school at Loma Linda University in Southern California.
