Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. Nature. Nature is so good for us.

Being outdoors, spending time in nature, slowing down.

But as a clinical psychologist, what I've learned is people really struggle with that

because they are just so busy with life they don't make time to slow down they don't

make time just to be and yet I think few people would argue that it's something that's

bad for us that is something that we shouldn't do.

I think almost everyone gets the importance of slowing down and being in nature.

So why do we struggle with it so much?

After doing therapy for close to 30 years now with clients,

I discovered over the years that most clients really struggle with this.

Though they see the importance of it, they really struggle with making time for it.

I particularly remember one woman about 20 years ago I worked with,

and I knew she really needed to be in nature to make time for that.

But what I discovered is that every week I would see her for months on end

I would encourage you to go watch a sunset, just to go to the beach

and watch a sunset. She never went. She couldn't understand. She couldn't make time for it, and

she just didn't go then finally she stopped coming in and I hadn't heard from her for years and then about 15 years later I ran into her and we caught up and I could instantly see and tell

particularly after she shared how her life had gone that it hadn't gone well.

She had just been very busy, caught up in life and its struggles,

and gotten much worse than when I knew her before. So being in nature is more than just spending time outdoors and smelling the fresh air.

It's important that we make time for it.

And thankfully I discovered this myself many years ago. I've always enjoyed nature. My parents took me
