I flew to Washington, D.C. to compete against nine other people for a dream opportunity, the chance to work at

National Public Radio as a Crock Fellow.

If I got this, I would get paid more than $40,000 and I would be working with some of the top radio journalists in the country.

All right, just got done with my meeting, with my last interview.

I thought it went really well.

Back in Maine I'm still waiting to hear back and I can't stop thinking about it.

And I find myself explaining my anxieties about the fellowship to my friends Alex and Katie

as we're eating dinner.

I mean she just tells you like she's like we're going to email the people who don't get it

and we're going to call the people who do get it.

So it's like,

fuck, like if you get an email versus if you get a phone call.

That they're a friend about that though, you know?

Sure.

Yeah, yeah, but it's also like, it's just, it feels like so cutthroat, you know?
