People living in eastern Rafa have been warned by Israel to evacuate immediately, ahead of a

planned military operation in the southern Gaza City.

Israel's military says about 100,000 people have been told to reach what it's calling a

humanitarian zone in a nearby coastal town.

But an official with UNRWA, the UN's main refugee agency in Gaza, says it

won't leave Eastern Rafa, and that the designated humanitarian zone is not

suitable for meeting basic needs.

It's a lot of beach and sandy area,

and it's really not somewhere that's quite suitable for people to put up tents

and to sit and try to live and meet their basic necessities every day.

A spokesperson for the Israeli military says the zone includes field hospitals,

tents, increased quantities of food, water, medications, and additional supplies.

More than a million displaced Palestinians remain on Edgenrofa, where Israel has been threatening

a major ground offensive for months.

This comes as at least 34 people, including babies and children, were killed overnight

in Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip.

Israeli forces say it struck what it called a Hamas command and

control center located inside an unrock complex in Central Gaza.
