September 21st. As much of Washington anxiously watches to see if we're heading

towards a government shutdown in 10 days time, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy appears

to be optimistic.

We're very close there.

That was McCarthy talking to reporters after a marathon two and a half hour GOP conference

meeting last night.

He says they made tremendous progress, but he wouldn't say if he had enough votes on the

table to pass his temporary spending proposal.

The plan would keep the government open for 30 days and would allow for some funding to address
