Maine's top election official has moved to strike former President Donald Trump from the state's 2024 GOP primary ballot.

Amendment's insurrectionist ban.

When we looked at the weight of evidence, it became clear that

January 6 was an attack not only on the Capitol on government officials but also

an attack on the rule of law that it it was an insurrection, and that the US Constitution does not tolerate an assault on our government, on the foundations of our government, and the main election law and the Constitution required indeed obligated me to act.

This makes Maine the second state to take Trump off the ballot, after Colorado did the same earlier this month.

The Trump campaign says it will file a legal objection to Maine's decision.

All eyes are now on the Supreme Court, as CNN's Caitlin Polance explains.

There is already also a petition before the US Supreme Court

asking for some sort of clarity here

because of the differences of states

and how states are determining their ballots in such different ways.

Some are allowing Trump on, some are not allowing him on the ballot such as Maine and Colorado.
