Hi there from CNN, I'm Joe Beck with the five things you need to know for Wednesday

August 14th. The Consumer Price Index is out this morning showing inflation

at 2.9%. It means price hikes slowed more than

expected in July and at a rate below 3% for the first time in more than three years.

Here comes a day after figures showed

wholesale inflation slowed as expected in July, but on the heels of an unexpectedly

weak jobs report that sent markets into a tail spin last week. And later today

former President Donald Trump is expected to unveil his economic policies,

while aides to Vice President Carmelah Harris say she'll lay out some of her plans on Friday.

Tropical Storm Ernesto is expected to strengthen into a category 1 hurricane this morning, as it makes its way around the edges of Puerto Rico.

It's already bringing strong wind, heavy rainfall and flash flooding to parts of the island,

where hundreds of thousands of people have lost power.

But as the storm brings possible damage and danger to US territories, FEMA's disaster relief

fund is out of money.
