Rescue operations are underway near the wreckage of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore

as crews look for people who went into the Patapsko River.

The structure completely fell into the harbour after a large container ship crashed into

one of its pillars early this morning. Here's Baltimore Fire Chief James Wallace.

We may be looking for upwards of seven individuals.

That's the latest information we have.

We are still very much in an active search and rescue posture at this point, and we will continue to be for some time.

Maryland's governor has declared a state of emergency over the incident,

while the White House says it's closely monitoring the situation.

A local official says construction workers were doing maintenance on the bridge when it collapsed,

and two people have been rescued from the water.

The container ship, called the Dali, was chartered by the Danish shipping company, Merck,

and the ship's management company says none of the crew on board were harmed.

The Supreme Court is hearing arguments today

over whether access to abortion pills should be stripped back in the US. The

Conservative majority court will decide if FDA approval of the drug

Miffer Pristone should be restricted. That would stop over the phone

prescriptions and mail deliveries of the drug and would mean it can only be used

up to seven weeks into pregnancy instead of 10, even in states where abortion is still legal.
