The Biden administration is set to waive 26 federal laws so it can build more border barriers at the US-Mexico border.

That's according to a notice posted to the Federal Register today that says it's

needed because of quote high illegal entry.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorka says there's a quote,

acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers.

Federal data lays out that between October of 2022 and August this year, Border Patrol reported

nearly 300,000 encounters in what it calls the Rio Grande Valley sector. Now, this is a significant change in policy from President Joe Biden.

There will not be another foot of wall constructed on my administration.

CNN's Priscilla Alvarez has more on what led to this move.

This really boils down to money that Congress has appropriated for border barriers and that is what

the Homeland Security Secretary says in this notice.

They have to use these 2019 funds for that purpose and they're going to focus it on an area that is highly trafficked.

Now they are also going to waive 26 laws to do this.

That is something that the Trump administration also did.

It's a way that the

administration will be able to build these in an expedited manner.
