Hello, this is Paul McKenna, and welcome to the positivity podcast.

My objective is to interview the most interesting people in the world,

and in the next 30 minutes, get insights and even discover how it is that they do what they do,

what makes them unique and fascinating, their success

mindset, and certainly what keeps them positive. My guest today is a musician broadcaster

and a Church of England priest. His musical career involved partnering with Jimmy Somerville in

the band The Communards. He's appeared on BBC shows such as QI,

Would I Lie to You, and have I got news for you, as well as regularly on Radio 4? He's also

Chancellor of the University of Northampton. I'm talking today with the Reverend Richard Coles.

You know, we have the daily diet of prayer, which helps you do that so much. So, you know, every day I kind of begin and end. Well, I begin and end on Twitter like everybody else. I begin and ended in prayer, which just puts me, reminds me of the, I try to just tune into the God frequency. But faith does not come easily, I've found. It is like most things worth having a matter of discipline,

and you just have to keep on slogging away at it, and sometimes you'll go through periods

where it's very fallow and where you won't sense the frequency very much at all, or it's

interrupted by the static of your own existence. I'm stuck with myself, and I know that the person

I am is self-regarding and ambitious and all those kinds of things.

But what I can do is try to use those energies to serve a purpose greater than just my own.

If you could just keep going, you can stand up and face forward in the onslaught of everything that life throws at you, then you're probably doing okay.

And if you can keep going, hang on to your integrity,

hang on to truthfulness, try to be generous in spirit and material things, then that's pretty good. Birmingham.
