So when we decide to follow Jesus, the first step involves self-denial.

And every step after that involves self-denial all the way to the finish line.

The text I quoted last week is Matthew 1624.

Then Jesus said to his disciples,

if anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

Today let's look at a parallel passage in Luke 923.

Then he said to them all,

if anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

You may have noticed that in this passage in Luke, the word daily is included,

which is a pretty significant detail.

We must deny ourselves and take up our cross every day and follow Jesus every day.

It's not a weekly exercise, but a daily exercise.

And following Christ doesn't mean we just check in once a week on Sunday.
