Paul, you are probably best known because of your daily devotional New Morning Mercies,

but yet the word you use most in that devotional and across all of your books and tweeting

and preaching is the word grace.

So, quite simply, a question that we've received a couple times is this.

What's the difference between mercy and grace?

Well, I want to answer this age-old question.

I think this is a question that has been asked thousands of times.

And I want to do that by reading three passages of scripture, and then I want to comment.

This is Ephesians 4 or 2, 4 through 9,

but God being rich in mercy because of the great love with which he loved us,

even when we're dead in our trespasses, made us alive with Christ,

by grace you have been saved, and raised us up with him and seated

with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so the coming ages he might show the

unmeasurable riches of His grace and kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

For by grace you have been saved through faith, this is not your own doing.

It is the gift of God, not a result of work so that no one may boast.

For we are His workmanship, creating Christ Jesus for good work, which God prepared beforehand

that we should walk in them.
