Summary

Last week I had the opportunity to head to campus for 3 days as part of my graduate school experience. While much of my program is online, from time to time I will have the chance to head to campus for these 3-day immersive experiences. I was so excited for this first chance to be on campus and meet some of my professors and classmates.   When entering a new space, there is always some discomfort. I felt that on the first morning as I entered the classroom. I sat with that discomfort for a bit and really listened to it. As I listened inward throughout our first morning, my discomfort gradually shifted to excitement. I could feel in my bones that I was in exactly the place I was meant to be.   I’ve had a few days to think about this experience of stepping into something new, unfamiliar, and uncomfortable. I realized there are some important pieces of how I navigated this discomfort that can be helpful to anyone entering a new experience or environment.   In this episode, I walk you through my experience in this class situation while also offering key insights into how you can step into new experiences and quickly discern if it's the right place for you right now, how to navigate your discomfort, how to shift anxiety into excitement, and how to create space for the growth opportunities that will likely open up for you.   We love the sponsors that make this show possible! Hello, Shameless M moms. I am excited to tell you about my first experience going to campus for grad school. So I've been in school for a while now, but I got to go to campus for the

1:07.0

first time. So you get to geek out with me. It was pretty awesome. And while I'm sharing my

1:12.6

experience of being on campus and what that was like and kind of what it brought up because

1:16.4

lots of interesting things came up as I reflected through that the experience and then after the

1:21.0

experience, I want you to think about what happens when you take a chance on something new and different and then how do you pay attention

1:31.6

as you are going through that process of having taken that chance and how are you listening and

1:37.6

learning and paying attention as you are walking through that? I've been trying to really do that

1:42.3

with this process of going back to school and like noting what is feeling great and what is meaningful. And some of the things that have

1:50.7

come up have been really surprising and things I didn't see coming. And so I'm going to share that

1:55.2

with you because I think whether or not you go to grad school, like it doesn't need to be about that

1:58.8

at all. But when you decide to take a chance on yourself, I think it's really important that you're paying attention as you're doing

2:05.7

it. But I also recognize that when you're parenting and working and doing all the things and then

2:12.5

you add like something new and different, sometimes just the frantic pace of life makes it really easy

2:17.4

to just like

2:18.0

run through things and race through things and get them done as fast as possible and check the

2:21.4

boxes. And you don't even notice when you're in the middle of growing or you don't even notice
