Psalm chapter 107 verse 1

Oh give thanks to the Lord for he is good

for his steadfast love endures forever.

And that's a common refrain, a common phrase in the Psalms, the steadfast love of God

endures forever and I just want you to think about that for a moment, particularly in a world where so many of us

have had people in our lives who loved us for a little while and then left us.

I just think about speaking to a group of students recently the number of students

before me who have had a parent who has loved them for a little while and then left them,

who's no longer in their lives.

I think about every Sunday when I'm standing before the church God's entrusted me to care for

and pastor and I think about all the men and women before me who have had a spouse who has loved them for a little

while and then left them. I think about the number of people who've had a close friend, someone who they thought

loved them well, who they leaned on and trusted in, but that close friend betrayed them.

We live in a world where people let us down in ways that are so hurtful in ways that have effects on our lives for a long time

maybe the rest of our lives.

And so to open up the Bible and to hear these words about God,

give thanks to the Lord for he is good for his steadfast love

Endures forever

Doesn't that reality just boom from the pages of the Bible across a world where love in so many

ways and so many relationships doesn't last.

The steadfast love of the one who matters most lasts forever.
