Well, welcome to the rest is politics awards with me, Alistair Campbell.

And me, Rory Stewart, and this, I'm going to give you a bit of credit for this, the awards,

so I'm going to be guided by you a little bit through the system.

So what we've done, Rory, we've just worked out a few categories and each of us have to

pick a person and event, whatever it might be, to fit these categories out, standing politicians,

event of the year, surprise of the year, moment of the year, film of the year, all sorts

of things.

Is it all about the World Cup or are there some other things?

I'm going to try and get through it without even mentioning the World Cup.

No, because unlike you, I'm just not obsessive and football, I'm just not a massive football

player.

And then at the end, we're going to have a lifetime achievement award, but on that one,

we have to agree on all the others, we don't have to agree with and say what we like.

So the first one is, outstanding British politician of the year.

Gosh.

Well, as a starter for ten then, maybe the big theme of the end of the year is the way

in which we have moved a little bit away, I guess, from the extremes of populism of Boris

Johnson and Liz Truss.

And in their different ways, Kirsta and the Labour Party has, I think, completed the

transition away from Jeremy Corbyn, made them a really serious, electable party.

You know, many, many points ahead.

I know what they are, 20, 30 points ahead in the polls at the moment.
