Hey everybody happy Labor Day.

I don't know if you know this but Labor Day is a particularly American holiday.

It's the most petulant American holiday because the rest of the world celebrates the role

of labor and may first.

May Day.

May Day.

I don't know how May Day became a call of ships going down.

That May Day is a holiday celebrating the workers of the world and everywhere in the world,

except for the United States and Canada, I believe, it celebrated on May 1st.

But in the United States, I think it was Grover Cleveland.

Yes, it was Grover Cleveland.

He was afraid that if the United States celebrated labor on May 1st, it would become associated

with the Haymarket massacre and sham trial in which a bunch of anarchists were executed

for throwing a bomb at police when it was pretty clear that none of them actually had

any involvement whatsoever.

But they were rounded up and executed anyway and people were very agitated about it.

It became a big deal.

So they were worried that if the United States joined this worldwide celebration of labor

or in early May, it would get associated with this thing and it would get out of hand

and cause a problem and yadda yadda.

So that's why in the United States, Labor Day is the other side of the calendar, the first
