Welcome to the happiness podcast, I'm Dr. Robert Puff. I've entitled this

podcast The Insecurity of Seeking Security. And it's a good title because what happens is we spend a lot of energy, a lot of time, a lot of focus on finding security in life.

But in seeking that security, that causes us to be insecure. Why? Why would

seeking security cause us to be insecure? And that's what we're going to

explore in this podcast. So let's begin. Well first, how do we really seek security? There's many ways. Financial is a big one. We want to have enough money so that we're fine for today

for tomorrow for perhaps the rest of our lives we really like that financial

security I think that's why there's so much energy put forth in making lots of money, particularly

here in the U.S. but around the world, that if I had enough money, if I really had enough

money, everything would be fine, everything would be great.

But it's easy to dispel that security because even if we don't know people who are wealthy, all we have to do is go to the tabloids and look at the rich and famous are people that have a lot of money, a lot of what seems like security.

And yet they end up in drug rehabs, they go through all kinds of crises, they commit suicide,

or they lose everything.

Sometimes they end up in prison, sometimes they go bankrupt.

No one is exempt from insecurity financially.

And though right now we're focused on extreme examples, I'm sure we all know people, many people whose finances were fine, everything was going well, they looked like their lives were very

secure, and then they lost it all, at least in the financial world.

We may ourselves have been one of those people. 2008 rocked a lot of people's worlds.

That's when both the financial and the housing market crashed.

And there are a lot of people, I'm sure you know some who lost her homes who lost

her jobs who lost everything. So financial security though we can strive for it

there is no real security there no matter how much we amass no matter how much we amass, no matter how much we get saved in our bank, no matter how much

we pay up for homes, it's amazing how quickly it can be devastated, it can be wiped out
