So I think that's really what it is. I just think the fantastic and our fantasies, because

fairy tales, I mean, in a lot of ways, they're just wish fulfillments, right? They're wish

fulfillments. And I think our wishes

and desires lay us bare more than we like to think like they reveal the reality of our hearts

our anxieties and our desires in such poignant ways our fantasies do and so I really like playing with that line in my books.

Rouge is an eerie, hypnotic, richly imagined, gothic, fairy tale. I think that's a fair way to describe it.

It's about a young woman who is mourning the loss of her estranged mother. So it's a novel about

grief. It is a mother-daughter story. It is a story about the dark side of a culture, our culture, that is obsessed with youth and beauty.
