My dad, like the narrator in the book, was a political prisoner.

He was an organizer in Ethiopia during the 70s when there was a revolution.

And he was incarcerated for a while. He was in prison for off and on, but for a total of like three years.

And the second time he went to prison, he was arrested with, I think it was 60 other people.

And then by the time they came out a couple years later, there were only 12 of them left.

So there were executions happening pretty steadily throughout his time in prison.
