Our story starts on February 12, 2010 at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

That afternoon, 13 members of the Biology Department gathered around a small oval desk for

a routine faculty meeting. And for the next hour, they all discussed their plans for the upcoming

semester. One of the members in attendance was Dr. Amy Bishop, who had just been told that she

would no longer be a professor at the university after the semester ended.

Throughout the meeting, the doctor, who usually had a lot to say, sat quietly,
