Kashayar J Kabash, author of the debut novel,

I Will Greet the Sun Again.

I wanted to imagine a world, an upbringing, a coming of age where although, you know,

for for Kavanobies, he's dealing with it in sort of secretive or or quiet ways, but for me, there wasn't even, and this is what like astounds me so much because I had friends who were out or maybe not yet, but had confided in me about their sexuality, about their

gayness. And yet for me, there was like no context or language in my private world where that

would be okay. All right, guys, that was Kashyar J. Kabashani. His debut novel is called I Will Greet the Sun Again, available from Hogarth.

And I Will Greet the Sun Again is about a young Iranian-American American boy who is growing up in the San Fernando Valley.

This is an Iranian-American diaspora novel.

The protagonist is named Kay, a young boy, his brothers, his mother,

and for some of the time his father are in the San Fernando Valley

trying to assimilate and make a go of it in the United States.

The father, I should add, is a very difficult man, an abusive man.

And this novel tells the story of how Kay, the protagonist, and his family struggle to survive.

It's also very much a queer novel about Kay's struggles to understand and come to grips with his sexuality as he comes of age.

And it's a novel of triumph as well against considerable odds.

This is a very moving debut about identity and belonging and I had a great conversation with
