Psalm chapter 74, verses 1 through 3.

0:10.5

Oh God, why do you cast us off forever?

0:14.8

Why does your anger smoke against the sheep of your pasture?

0:19.0

Remember your congregation, which you have purchased of old, which you have redeemed to be the tribe of your pasture. Remember your congregation, which you have purchased of old,

0:22.4

which you have redeemed to be the tribe of your heritage. Remember Mount Zion, where you have

0:28.7

dwelt. Direct your steps to the perpetual ruins. The enemy has destroyed everything in the

0:34.7

sanctuary. What a powerful, heartfelt prayer born from a painful,

0:44.4

hurting situation. The picture here is God's people crying out for him to remember them.

0:53.3

Now let's think about that, To ask God to remember us.

0:58.3

1:05.1

1:14.8

Instead, the picture, and we see this all throughout the Bible, is calling on God to be faithful

1:22.0

1:31.9

1:37.4

way and that way. And this kind of prayer is pleasing to God to say, God, I'm trusting in your promises and I'm asking you to be faithful to them.

1:49.2

This kind of prayer we see all throughout the Old Testament. I think about Exodus chapter 2 when

1:54.5

God's people were slaves in Egypt. And the Bible says God remembered them. God heard them. He knew their suffering. It's not that God

2:04.6

had forgotten them, but it's a reminder that God does not forget his people, that God will be

2:11.3

faithful to His promises, and that God's people are right to call upon God to be faithful to his promises.

2:18.8

So let's just pray and think about how this affects the way we pray,

2:24.8

particularly in light of God's faithfulness to send His Son to His people.
