My guest today is Andrew Lipstein, author of a new novel called The Vegan.

But yeah, becoming a vegetarian for me was a very weird experience that I think had a lot to do with this book. and I think writing it was a way to explore that.

I think if you asked me that morning that I decided to become a vegetarian, would I ever become

a veterinarian? I would think it was a ridiculous idea, as would everyone who knew me, and I was

eating dumplings with who would become my wife, and I just looked at the meat and just said,

I don't want ever, I'm the meat and just said I don't want

ever I'm getting goosebumps actually I don't ever want to eat meat again and um and I haven't

okay that was Andrew Lipstein his new novel is called the Vegan, available from, for Ars Strauss and

Giroux. And I should emphasize, this is a novel, despite the clip that you just heard.

It's not a book about veganism in a polemical way. It's very much a fiction. It is a novel about

guilt and greed and morality and what we as human beings will do,

the lengths to which we will go to prove to ourselves and to others that we are, quote-unquote, good.
