Summary

One of the joys of visiting northern Italy is exploring the mountain region known as the Dolomites on foot. Even if you're more of an ambler and walker (ie not an expert hiker) there are plenty of trails that will take you deep into this beautiful wilderness so you can admire the mountain ranges up close and breathe in the fresh alpine air.

Join us as we chat with our friends, South Tyrol specialists Kate and Vin from Throne and Vine, a website focused on the South Tyrol region, about what to expect if you want to go hiking in the Dolomites.

Interested in learning Italian? As discussed in the show, we recommend the online program Rocket Italian - an innovative way to help you build a daily practice for reading, writing and speaking conversational Italian >> access the free trial.

Ciao, everyone. Hope you're all happy and well and bringing a little bit of Italy into your life

0:55.9

every day. I know I do. Luckily for me, I get to talk about Italy and two Italians most days,

1:03.0

but I also like to have a daily cappuccino, listen to some Italian songs and do some Italian

1:08.0

language practice. I'm using Rocket Italian for that at the moment. I started

1:12.5

off with Duolingo, which is free and a pretty good little online program that you can start off with,

1:18.6

but it reminded me of my primary school Italian lessons, which were pretty basic. I also started

1:24.0

listening to a lot of podcasts like Coffee Break Italian, but in the end I found that

1:27.8

I needed a bit of structure and a way to set myself goals and see progress with my language

1:32.6

practice. So I use Rocket Italian, which does a great job of showing my progress and reminding me

1:37.9

when I go a little bit off track. Now, I'm going to be honest with you, I need to practice a lot more

1:43.6

than I do, but when I do put in

1:45.7

the effort, I can really see progress, especially when I speak. I've always been a little bit

1:51.2

embarrassed and self-conscious about my accent and thought an Australian- Italian-Tang would

1:55.8

sound really weird, but it's actually getting more Italian-Italian, thanks to the audio and speech training in the

2:02.0

Rocket Italian program. So if you want to test it out to see if it's a learning style that could work

2:07.2

for you, they have a really decent free trial program. I'll pop that into the show notes for

2:12.0

anyone that's interested. Now, true to be told, and most places you go to in Italy, you can get by with basic Italian
