| 0:00.0 | The Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. We spend a lot of our time keeping up with the news and we can do it really well these days because of smartphones |
| 0:27.0 | the internet TV newsprint and when big events happen say like an earthquake a disaster a political |
| 0:36.0 | race we can hear the news over and over and over again being inundated by the news. For example, I live in Southern California, |
| 0:45.0 | and I remember, because I've lived here for a while now, |
| 0:48.0 | but I do remember when an earthquake happens, |
| 0:50.0 | for days on end on almost every channel, all they're talking it about is the earthquake |
| 0:56.5 | over and over and over again, image after image after image. |
| 1:00.5 | And I would say almost all of them are repeated. There's really no new news coming. |

| 1:31.8 | And sometimes it can be like a drug though. |
| 1:33.9 | We just want to keep hearing it, keep seeing those images, keep hearing that news report |
| 1:39.2 | again and again. |
| 1:40.8 | We're almost addicted to the news, and that's why it sells and that's why they keep repeating it because they know people will keep listening |
| 1:48.0 | And the newscaster's jobs the social media people is to feed our addictions to news. |
| 1:56.4 | I'm sure not everyone will agree with this, but probably most listeners to this podcast |
| 2:00.8 | well, that spending our time hour after hour after hour listening to the news |
| 2:07.8 | isn't very good for us. |
