Summary

The words for today are: Maudlin, Deride, Malinger, Gestation.

Today's quote is from Soren Kierkegaard, from the book The Present Age.

VictorPrep's vocab podcast is for improving for English vocabulary skills while helping you prepare for your standardized tests!

This podcast isn't only intended for those studying for the GRE or SAT, but also for people who enjoy learning, and especially those who want to improve their English skills.

I run the podcast for fun and because I want to help people out there studying for tests or simply learning English.

The podcast covers a variety of words and sometimes additionally covers word roots. Using a podcast to prep for the verbal test lets you study while on the go, or even while working out!

Mirth, meaning amusement, especially expressed in laughter.

1:01.0

1:24.1

called Soren Kirkgaard and Kukugard was a Danish philosopher and he was living in

1:29.5

the 1800s and one of my favorite things that he wrote is this short book, really rather a long essay called

1:38.2

the present age.

1:40.2

And it's really interesting to me because he wrote this in 1840.

1:45.0

And I want you to think a little bit about how accurate this seems to our modern age,

1:52.0

given that he wrote this so long ago so he wrote this in 1840 so

1:56.3

I'll just read you this quote. A revolutionary age is an age of action.

2:03.3

Ours is the age of advertisement and publicity.

2:08.0

Nothing ever happens, but there is immediate publicity everywhere. In the present age, a rebellion is, of all things, the most unthinkable.

2:19.5

Such an expression of strength would seem ridiculous to the calculating intelligence of our times.
