I'm Frances Lamb, and this is The Splendid Table from APM.

We're still a little ways out from Thanksgiving, but for us making our show, well, Thanksgiving is kind of a month-long event.

And so while we do spend lots of time thinking about potatoes and stuffing and all of that, it's actually pretty lovely that we also get to spend so much time thinking about giving thanks.

And especially now thinking

about this very American tradition. Later in the show, we'll have one of our very best bakers,

Dory Greenspan, about what might be a new tradition on your table, a nice simple cake to go

with all that pie. But we're going to start with Padma Lakshmi. Now, Padma, of course,

was the longtime host of Top Chef. But before she was on that show, she was a food lighter. And she's

also really come into her own as a passionate advocate for immigrant America. She made a terrific

TV series called Taste the Nation, where she traveled all over our country to eat,

cook, and hear the American stories of our neighbors of All Stripes. And so for years,

she's gathered those recipes. And now we have her brand new cookbook, Padma's All-American.
