Hey there, what's up? Welcome to Side Us All School on your host, Chris Gillebo. As I worked

0:13.0

on this episode, I was reminded of a New Yorker cartoon about plastic straws. In this cartoon,

0:18.6

The Inventor, or at least the supposed inventor of plastic straws, was displaying his invention

0:23.6

and saying to a friend or colleague, wow, these things are so powerful, each one is going

0:27.9

to last each person for a lifetime. Now, of course, most of us have used hundreds of plastic

0:32.9

straws in our lifetime. And then typically, disposed of them after a single soda or coffee

0:37.6

or smoothie. Recently, you may have noticed a trend to eliminate the use of these straws

0:42.0

in lots of restaurants and just from our general way of living. And as someone who's been

0:46.9

in that group, that group of people who have used a lot of straws in my lifetime, despite

0:50.7

their indestructibility, I don't know why, I guess, for years I didn't realize this was

0:54.4

a problem. But I suppose I'm glad that we're changing it up now. Stop using those plastic

0:58.8

straws. Get on board with paper straws or begin to embrace multiple use plastics. That's

1:04.0

what we're going to talk about in this episode. Remember, problems create opportunities. Whenever

1:08.4

there's a problem, there's lots of different ways to make money. And the Side Us Lure that

1:12.1

you're going to hear about ends up getting a lot more than a small side gig when she decides

1:15.6

to make and sell Planet Friendly Eco Wares. So speaking of making money, because that is

1:20.2

what we talk about on Side Us All School, it's not just good for the environment. Even though

1:24.1

it's awesome that it's good for the environment, it's also good for her bank account. This

1:27.6

business is bringing in up to $25,000 a month in the holiday season and at least $10,000

1:32.8

a month otherwise. She's really just getting going. She hopes to scale this business and

1:36.6

take it far and wide. So here's a quick shout out to our sponsor. I appreciate them helping

1:41.5

us keep the lights on and buy some paper straws for our office. And then I'll tell you

...
