Hello, everyone. Welcome to the Almost 30 podcast and Happy New Year. We're in January.

0:19.1

I hope you had a beautiful, restful end to the year and

0:25.0

beginning of this one. I don't declare any goals, any resolutions, anything on the first of

0:33.5

the year, to be completely honest with you. I need a moment because for me, the holidays

0:38.6

kind of come in really quickly, kind of like a wave, and I need a moment to, like, dry off

0:44.9

and catch my breath and wait until everyone, like, goes back to work in school. Not that I

0:50.2

don't work, but it just kind of feels like that. And then I can, like, okay, let's see

0:56.6

what feels true for me this coming year and in this year that just passed. And so I wanted to do

1:04.7

an episode for all of you who kind of feel the same where you need a beat. And you would also like to be

1:13.7

reflective about the year that has passed and the upcoming year. This is an episode where we're

1:19.1

going to tell the truth about this year that just passed with compassion. We're going to look

1:27.0

outward. We're going to look inward. And then look to the year

1:31.1

ahead and just kind of get clear about, you know, what we're available for, what we're not,

1:37.7

what we're working on, what we can continue to, like, be proud of and praise ourselves for.

1:46.7

I just really want to invite self-compassion into the room.

1:51.1

It's something that, like, I can say, yeah, I have self-compassion.

1:54.4

But if I'm actually looking or observing my thoughts, there's not a lot of self-compassion

2:00.0

all the time.

2:00.6

There's more judgment

2:02.0

and pressure and high expectations and standards that make me a little anxious. So self-compassion

2:13.5

has been shown in psychological research to just really help people to be more emotionally

2:24.1

resilient, more likely to re-engage after setbacks than people who self-criticize.
