| 0:00.0 | Happy Thursday morning, everybody, welcome back to the Tropical MBA podcast where we help you grow a location independent business from your laptop. |
| 0:20.8 | There's a lot of talk about creating community as an extension to your product or creating |
| 0:26.3 | a community around the customers to your product. |
| 0:29.7 | One of the most effective ways to do that is by hosting events, either in person or virtual. |
| 0:35.4 | So today what I want to do is break down how we are doing this and how |
| 0:39.1 | our customers are doing this because events are one of these things where when we're seeking |
| 0:44.4 | a new channel, a marketing channel, either word of mouth, we want to create buzz in our customer base. |
| 0:50.5 | We want to give, even as a sales tool, like delivering value to our customers, |
| 0:56.9 | events are sort of like on the front end. They're the easiest thing to gin up, right? You can |
| 1:01.6 | conceive of an event, get people there and start delivering value. And then on the back end, |
| 1:06.9 | there can be some complication about how to actually organize the event and get that value delivered. |
| 1:12.3 | So we're going to break it down into two parts. |
| 1:14.1 | On the front end, we're going to talk about how do people make money from events? |
| 1:18.6 | Because a lot of people don't or don't have a clear vision of how they could make more money in their business by hosting an event. |
| 1:24.8 | And then at the second part of the episode, we're going to talk about some ideas and concepts for driving value, for having a solid operation and for, quote, getting out alive from your event with your P&L in order and your business stronger for having done it. To help me and you do that today, I've invited Alex Harley, our senior community manager, onto the podcast. Welcome |
| 1:45.1 | to the program, Alex. Thanks, Dan. Good to be here. So, Alex, you have a lot of credibility in doing this. |
| 1:50.1 | And the reason we invited you to the show is for our last event in Bangkok, 55 of our attendees gave us a straight 10 out of 10. |
| 1:57.1 | And we had our highest NPS score ever. So congrats to you and we're looking forward to |
| 2:01.2 | hearing what you've learned through hosting handfuls and handfuls of events for listeners |
| 2:06.5 | to this podcast. You want to maybe give a little bit of your background before we get started. |
| 2:11.8 | Let's know your name and like what is you do and all that stuff. Yeah, thank you, Dan, for welcoming here. |
| 2:16.7 | My name is Alex Harling. |
