Summary

In this episode, I cover updates to gut research. These updates are grouped into two main categories: gut dysbiosis and immune system.

Gut health and immune health go hand-in-hand, so it may not be so shocking to hear how lowering gut inflammation can boost immunity.

What exactly works to improve digestive symptoms and immune function? This episode features studies that reveal the power of diet and the pitfalls of lab tests and environmental exposures.

Listen in to better understand how to build a healthier gut.

0:45.5

Let's jump in with more research updates on gut health. Specifically, we put together a consortium

0:52.5

of studies on dysbiosis, your immune system, and how diet can be used to improve dysbiosis.

1:01.0

Now, if you haven't heard the term dysbiosis, it's the opposite of what you want to be, which is ubiotic or ubiosis, meaning balance.

1:09.0

Just like you may have heard the term u thyroid, meaning your thyroid output

1:12.4

is normal. Well, ubiosis means that the commensals, the bacteria, the flora in the intestinal

1:18.8

tract are balanced if it's ubiotic and imbalanced if it's disbiotic. Now, one or two sort of

1:27.0

prefacing remarks, the term dysbiosis can be helpful as sort of a

1:34.4

heuristic meaning that when there are symptoms, we can infer there's probably a degree

1:41.2

of dysbiosis present, yes.

1:43.6

Do we need to be uber specific with how we quantify, identify, and test?

1:48.6

Probably not.

1:49.5

And I make this caution because as you probably become accustomed to me sharing,

1:54.9

there's a very slippery slope with lab testing wherein we can very easily go over this event horizon,

2:02.8

where we spend or waste money and we chase numbers rather than improve the health and the symptoms of the individual.

2:09.4

So let's unpack this more thoroughly, this condition of dysbiosis and what it correlates to also what you can do to improve dysbiosis if you

2:21.7

suspect you have it now this first study looked at ibs and its association to dysbiosis so ibs
