Because most people think we should avoid risky things, and that we should generally

play things safe, and that's especially true around people.

Avoiding the possibility of tension or discomfort is preferred to leaning into it.

But like so many things in life, playing it safe in managing your people only leads to

mediocrity and actually increases the likelihood that something dangerous will happen.
