Today on the program, my guest is David S. Wills, author of a new biography of Hunter S. Thompson,

entitled High White Notes, The Rise and Fall of Gonzo Journalism.

And that was the final piece in the Gonzo puzzle, was immediacy.

Kind of like live tweeting today, I guess, the sort of unedited,

or supposedly unedited reportage,

that seeks to kind of bring the reader right into the event that's being described

in a way that would otherwise not be possible.

And so the article was a huge success.

After he'd written it, Hunter Thompson felt terrible.
