expert on to dispel some of the myths and set the record straight.

Today my guest is Miriam C. Davis.

She is the author of a book that I've been waiting to be written since I started this

podcast and I'm blown away that it somehow escaped me when it was released last year,

but better late than never, right?

It's called The Axeman of New Orleans and it has quickly become the definitive work

on the subject.

In fact, my recent guest, Harold Schechter, had some really nice words about it.

He called it an exemplary work of historical true crime, exhaustively researched, crisply

written and as briskly paced as an fictional thriller.

Lots of true crime podcasts have released episodes about the Axeman of New Orleans.

It's quite a famous story but up until your book, there hasn't been anything more than

chapters or articles written about it, at least in recent history.

Was it intimidating to you to tackle the subject and how did you decide to write it?

Well, some years ago my brother Tim came to visit me and he was reading John Douglas's

mind hunters which came out in 1999.
