We begin this episode on a somber note

this weekend in Belgium.

22-year-old Formula 2 driver Antoine Hubert

lost his life in the opening lap of the Formula 2 feature race at Spa.

Rob, you've been digging in a little bit into what exactly happened here.

Can you give sort of an overview of what happened?

Yeah, it's a really, I guess the thing to know about this up front is it is an unexpected accident and a tragic

result but it does come into part of the spa circuit where there have been apparently a number of near misses

before and so sort of in the wake of this there probably is going to be some re-evaluation

of the first sector of Spa.

What ended up happening here on the second lap of the Formula 2 feature race this week

was Giuliano Lacy lost control of his car heading into Radiano.

And Hubert was trying to evade and apparently Elacy had a puncture.

Hebert was trying to evade.

He made contact. I think he clipped his wing on Elacey's car.

But he ended up going to the barriers and getting bounced back into the

racetrack sort of broadside.

And right at that moment, a driver, Juan Manuel Correa, came up the hill at high speed and just hit him squarely in the center of the chassis.

Hebar was pronounced dead an hour and after the accident. There have been no real details about what exactly the cause was or whether he actually did survive that that impact at all.

But it was a severe and ugly incident.
