Summary

In episode 80 of The Mindful Kind podcast, discover more about being mindful during times of illness.

First of all, a quick apology for the sound of my voice! I know it isn't great as I have a cold at the moment, but I really wanted to share this episode:)

Tips for being sick and practising mindfulness:

- Get plenty of sleep

- Eat and drink things which are good for your body during times of illness. Some of my go-tos include soup with veggies, plenty of water, garlic, orange juice, manuka honey (thanks to my friend, Miranda Partridge) and turmeric lattes (my favourite brand is Golden Grind).

- Do body scans to find where pain is located in your body so you can take care of it with a massage, hot water bottle, or gentle stretches.

- Try not being mindful! Use distractions like movies, tv and books to help painful times pass.

Hello and welcome to episode 80 of the Mindful Kind podcast. So the topic for this episode is taking good care of yourself

0:40.3

when you're sick. You might be able to hear my voice is sounding really funny as I've got a cold

at the moment. So as usual, the episode is inspired by what's happening in my own life. Anyway,

0:51.9

it was a bit of a stressful week last week with my granddad and now my dad

0:55.4

both being in hospital. I've been working on a lot of different things with my business and my

part-time job has been really busy as well. Throw in some wintery, rainy weather and late

1:05.4

nights and there was the perfect recipe for getting run down and sick. I know this happens quite a lot for other people

1:11.9

too. We go through such busy and stressful times, perhaps sacrifice a little bit of self-care,

1:18.4

push ourselves a bit too hard and end up with lower immune systems and higher chances of becoming

1:23.6

unwell. Or sometimes we just get sick for no real obvious reason. Either way, there are

1:29.6

quite a few things we can do to take care of ourselves when we're sick to help us recover, and there

1:34.7

are some useful mindfulness practices to get us through as well. First of all, I'd like to talk a little

1:40.6

bit about our immune systems. Now, obviously obviously this isn't my area of expertise,

1:45.7

so please do your own research, maybe speak to a health professional or read up on the subject

yourself, but I just wanted to share a few things which are helpful for me. Getting plenty of sleep

1:55.7

is high on my list of priorities whenever I'm unwell. I felt tired earlier last night, so I went to bed and read my book
